This is a business you could start in a couple hours with literally zero investment. In the public library on the resort island of Nantucket, I watched a man create a flyer for his walking tour business on a free public access computer. Then he went outside and posted the newly created flyer on the public bulletin board. A few hours later he greeted his customers as they gathered on the advertised street corner, collected their money, and then took them on the walking tour. Not sure how to set up your walking tour? Get a history or even a self-walking tour guide at the public library.
eBay – Of course you can’t read an article about making money online that doesn’t mention eBay. You can start an eBay store and get serious about it or you can just sell some stuff to declutter your home. Either way, I’ve made my fair share from selling on eBay and it’s still a popular way to earn money. If you decide to start an actual eBay store, you’ll want to find a drop-ship business like Doba that will store and ship items straight to your customers so you don’t have to deal with an inventory.
My oldest daughter tutored and gave piano lessons. My younger daughter was paid $70 by our hair dresser to set up a website on 1and1.com using their free Website Builder. Sweet! Your ideas really will work.
I like sporting goods. It is a good local business. If you can go out and connect with local sports teams, you can further solidify your franchise. And you can further bolster your business still more by also selling equipment.
If you speak like James Earl Jones or Scarlett Johansson, quite a number of digital publishers (including game developers, animated film-makers, and training video producers) pay good money for voice talent and the time investment isn’t too intensive—making this a great side business idea. You can find these publishers looking for voice-over artists on sites like PeoplePerHour, Freelancer and Upwork, as well as their calls for talent directly on their websites or through voiceover agents. If you do pursue this as a side business idea, be prepared to invest for the long-haul as it can be a very competitive industry.

Make content you’d like to watch. Giggling toddlers, funny animals and crazy dancing are often winners. Start with your passions and hobbies – could you film hula hoop tutorials, hairdo how-tos or video game reviews?
Start a website. Make your uni ramblings as engaging and insightful as you can (it helps to provide a few laughs and be opinionated). Once you have a good following, you can start hosting ads on your site for payment, or even write advertorials for brands (this basically involves you writing about a company for payment) – read our guide to making money as a blogger for more deets.
One of my first businesses after college was a lawn care business. It’s surprisingly easy to get started as long as you’re willing to do the work. The biggest hurdle was battling the changes in weather, but it was a good business overall.
College students have been making money for years by selling their plasma to local plasma banks. It’s a relaxing job (if you can handle the sight of needles) and can provide a little bit of income on a regular basis.
My 18 year old sister has been complaining that there are no jobs and thet she can’t make money. After reading this, I think she just might be lazy. I’ll forward it to her and see if she still comes up with excuses.
Do you like being around kids? Consider offering babysitting/nanny services. Many families are offering good pay for quality care for their children. It can also be a perfect way to earn money for college students as families search for nannies to watch their children during summer break from school and nights during the week.
There seem to be some apps popping up that pay you to do simple stuff like take a picture of a menu, or of yourself drinking a starbucks, or verifying that a road is closed – you get the picture. Here are a few that I found:
